SUMMER CAMPS This Summer 2008, ArtWorks will offer three week-long art camps called Art Adventures: Exploring Great Museums Rising first through sixth-graders are invited to join in a week full of engaging art adventures as we explore the art collections of three renowned art museums in the United States: The Getty Museum in Los Angeles, The NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, and The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Our students will become experts on some of the most famous art and artists included in these museums--first by examining selected works and then by creating their own art inspired by these collections.
Each week we will experiment with several different art media including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and ceramics. Children will come away from ArtWorks with a greater appreciation for for the work in these museums, as well as a new confidence in their own artistic ability. Camps will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily, and include a mix of indoor and outdoor art-making and fun, as well as a healthy mid-morning snack. June 23-27: Art Adventures: Exploring The Getty Museum (Tuition: $150) During the first week of camp, June 23-27, students will explore the diverse and extensive collection of The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It will be hard to choose a limited number of works to focus on from this museum, but we will surely draw inspiration from the antiquities collection, the exquisite illuminated manuscripts, European paintings, modern sculpture, and American photographs. June 30-July 3 (4 days): Art Adventures: Exploring The North Carolina Museum of Art (Tuition: $120) For the second week of camp, June 30-July 3, we will stay close to home while investigating some highlights from the collection of the NCMA in Raleigh. We are lucky to be so close to this collection of ancient Greek and Egyptian art, world renowned European paintings, American art, African art and modern masterpieces. Hopefully our students can follow this week of camp with a trip to see these pieces in person.
July 7-11: Art Adventures: Exploring The Museum of Modern Art (Tuition: $150) For our third and final week of camp, July 7-11, we will explore New York City's Museum of Modern Art. Arguably the foremost museum of modern art in the world, MOMA's collection includes some of the most remarkable works of art from the past century. Children love experimenting with "cool" modern art techniques, and this week they will be inspired by several of the major art movements of the 20th century including expressionism, cubism, futurism, abstract expressionism, and surrealism. Registration will begin on January 28, 2008. $10 off per week when registering for multiple weeks. Sibling discount: 10% Click here to print our registration forms. Completed paperwork and tuition will reserve your child's space. Please mail completed forms and tuition to: ArtWorks for Everyone, 500 Millstone Drive, Hillsborough, NC, 27278
